Challenge

Key workflows still relied on manual steps and local know-how, increasing the risk of delays, rework, and inconsistent ways of working. The MES landscape needed continuous improvements to automate data capture, guide operators with the right instructions at the right time, and make production status and quality information easily available to customer service and other office functions.

Context

A major pulp & paper producer wanted to increase automation and give both operators and office-based teams (e.g., customer service and production planning) better day-to-day tools. The goal was to support fast, correct decisions and consistent execution in a high-availability production environment.

What we did

We provided end-to-end MES application management and continuous development. In addition to operations (monitoring, incident/problem management, and release planning), we implemented improvements that increased automation in production reporting and reduced manual handling. We evolved IT/OT integrations and expanded MES functionality to provide operators with clearer guidance and faster feedback, while enabling customer service and office teams to access trusted, up-to-date production and quality information.

Result

The customer strengthened its ability to continuously improve and expand MES capabilities without disrupting 24/7 production. Increased automation and improved operator workflows reduced manual work and supported more consistent execution. Office-based teams gained better access to reliable production status and quality data, improving service, coordination, and decision-making.
