Develop FPGA for use on the Mars Perseverance Rover​
Situation & Challenge
The customer needed an FPGA for Radio wave generation, reception, processing and forwarding in a harsh environment with heavy radiation.​ A robust technology had to be used, – which introduced several major design challenges.
Engagement details, solution & value created
The FPGA was implemented in tight cooperation with the customer.​ Advanced and pragmatic design solutions were introduced to handle the relatively high data processing capacity needed. Making a robust architecture and implementing good solutions for handling radiation related issues was also important. Proper verification was of course critical – as due to technology limitations there could be no updates. Our self-made verification environment ‘UVVM’ helped assuring correct functionality and efficient development. ​ The FPGA is still operating perfectly well.
